We are finally coming up on summer time and I cannot wait. I’m so sick of cold weather, cold rain, or snow that summer could not come sooner. Other than the weather, summer means a break from school, and for me it’s the last summer as a student at UNCW. I may stay down here after graduation, if I can find a job, but this time next year summer won’t be near as significant.
This being said, I want to make this summer memorable. I didn’t get to take a trip for spring break, and since I’m graduating in December, that was technically my last spring break, so I definitely want to take a trip of some sort. Right now I have a couple of options. One of my good friends from high school is in the army, and he’s stationed right outside Honolulu, Hawaii. Since he has been there he has been begging me and my twin brother to make a trip out there, and he has a couple weeks of leave at the beginning of July. My roommate and a few of my friends are also looking at taking a cruise around the Caribbean sometime midsummer too.
The pros of a cruise is that it’s all inclusive (except alcohol), and you get to see a bunch of different sites. It would definitely be cheaper than flying out to Hawaii and back too. But Hawaii is Hawaii and that’s a pro in itself. Plus, I know my friend and he is likely to pay for a lot of what I and my brother would do once we got over there. Sufficed to say, both trips would be a blast, but I can only take one. So I ask my blog readers, what would be the most memorable for you?

Oh, how fun! I was thinking about taking a Caribbean cruise midsummer as well; What if we both go on the same one and see eachother?? haha!
ReplyDeleteI have been to both Honolulu and on a cruise, and I have to say both are very different from one another. Of course, your experience relies heavily on who you are spending your time with, but a cruise is more sheltered and party-based than an actual trip. Taking a trip and staying in a different place allows greater opportunities (in my opinion) to learn, explore, and grow as a person. But hey, cruises are so much fun and you get to spend hours or days in different parts of the world.
Hmmm you have an interesting, yet awesome predicament here. I would probably choose to fly to Hawaii. I don't know how you are with boats and living in a small cabin for an extended period of time, but I prefer a hotel over a ship. That's just me though. Plus there are regulations with cruises that you probably wouldn't deal with if you just went to Hawaii. Which ever you choose though, I'm sure you'll have a blast. I'm graduating in December too and definitely want to live up my final summer at UNCW.
ReplyDeleteCaleb, as you know I do travel alot! Since this is your last couple of months before the real world starts you are right by saying it's time for a trip! As you know for spring break I took a seven day cruise to the Western Caribbean and it was a wonderful time! But, if you don’t travel that much I would defiantly go with Hawaii , that is a place that I think everyone needs to travel in their lifetime. The landscape, animals, and people are so incredible there! Don't get me wrong cruises are great, but you get very little time off the boat. And, if you want a real break from reality go to Hawaii!! I’m sure you are your brother would have the best time with one of your friends you haven’t seen in a while. Hopefully, whatever you do it will be amazing! But, really take the opportunity and get the heck out of here just for a little break!
ReplyDeleteYeah, I'm with Ashley on this one. Personally, I've never been on a cruise before, let alone a plane. But if I had to choose which one to accomplish first, I would definitely fly to Hawaii. I don't know a whole lot about cruises, but they do seem memorable. However, Hawaii is Hawaii and that is a pro in itself as you said. There will be plenty of water and fun tropical things to do when you're down there in Hawaii that you would already be introduced to on a cruise. I feel like a cruise will always be there for you to go on, but your friend won’t always be on leave from the army in Hawaii in July. Whichever you decide, hope you have a great time though.
ReplyDeleteI have never been to Hawaii but I would pick going to Honolulu. Cruises are fun but can end up being expensive if you decide to drink. The on shore excursions are fun but you are on someone else's time. If you go to Hawaii you would get to chose what you want to do when you do it. You'll still get to go in the water and do stuff that you would have done on your excursions. Plus you'll get to see your friend.
ReplyDeleteHaving been to Hawaii (briefly) I understand why it is a paradise! There is so much to see and unlike a cruise, you are able to travel around to all of the islands and see a whole other culture. It was incredible to see the difference between the island and the mainland of America. I truly think that you would enjoy Hawaii. Cruises are nice but the idea of having the freedom to travel all over and constantly see beauty sounds so enticing to me. I love that you have this goal because as much as I would love to do the same, I am not so brave. Good luck on your choice!
ReplyDeleteI would say you most certaintly have the right idea about how you should be enjoying your last summer! My vote would be Hawaii, but I have been on a cruise and I loved it, but you don't get much island time which was it's downfall. So if you want more island time then the cruise is not for you. I hope you have an amazing last summer, it is bitter sweet! Enjoy the beautiful weather here until you travel around!
ReplyDeleteMy vote goes to Hawaii! I have never been on a cruise or to Hawaii, but Hawaii would certainly be my first choice. Hawaii is a beautiful state and there are a lot of activities and sites to explore. You can see volcanoes, go on hikes in the jungle-like atmosphere, and of course surf. Also, your friend probably won't be stationed there forever. Take advantage while you can.
ReplyDeleteI defintely would think Hawaii would be my first choice. It will probably be the only chance you'll get to go. You can go on a cruise the following year! I haven't been on a cruise or to Hawaii, but I would love to do both. I'm so jealous of your prospective summer plans! I just get to go to Disney World with my family then work the rest of the summer.
ReplyDeleteDefinitely Go to Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteThe cruise sounds great to, but when you are on a ship you have to eat, sleep, and do activities when they tell you to. If you are the type who needs to be entertained then the cruise would probably be for you. But if you are like me and find plenty to do on your own, then I would do Honolulu and get set up on island time. Set your own schedule this way if you want to be on a strictly liquid diet...then you can!
Either way I hope you have a blast!
Caleb, I think Summer came before Spring this year. I am graduating this year and it is really different than all of my other Summers. I already have a job, but it is still very nerve racking that I am actually done with school. I say you go on both trips; you can usually find pretty cheap cruises it just may be a few days shorter than you would want it.
ReplyDeleteI would say definately go. I mean it is a big deal to celebrate before we all go into our careers and into life. I hope that I can do the same whenever I graduate. My friends and I have talked about going on a vacation of some sort. I think it would be lots of fun. I hope you get to do that.
ReplyDeleteIt’s funny that you should say that about Hawaii and that your friend is stationed there. My ex-boyfriend and I have stayed close after a clean break up about 7 years ago. About a year ago he decided to sign up for the Navy which was a big deal for him. He was at first stationed in Vermont then New Hampshire, now he is in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. He has been there for well over a year now with taking long trips out at sea for extensive amounts of time. He invited me to come see him last year and if I didn’t get into a serious relationship last August, I would have definitely taken the opportunity to travel out there. Thing is, for you, you have to consider if it would be worth traveling out there if your friend is not going to be in Hawaii for long. Might want to take the opportunity while you can stay and hang with someone you know and it would be quite cheaper than a cruise.
ReplyDeleteMe and my boyfriend were considering a cruise for my graduation/ birthday present. If you consider the price of the cruise plus you are going to want to get off the ship, and the alcohol…it really is not cheap at all!
I would have to say my favorite summer trip was with my family three years ago. We went to three baseball games in New York, Boston and Baltimore and stayed a few nights in each city. It was awesome to see a new place at watch a ball game at such historic ball parks. Fenway was by far my favorite. We took a tour and got to sit atop the green monster. It really was a trip I will never forget.
